EZ Bar Curl Exercise Guide
The EZ bar curl. The EZ bar curl is a bicep curl performed with a EZ bar. For those of you who don't know what an EZ bar is, I have included a picture of the EZ bar below. So why should you use an EZ bar for your bicep curl as opposed to a normal straight bar?
In this article we will cover the differences between the EZ bar curl and the straight bar curl, why you should use the EZ bar and how to do a EZ bar curl using strict form to build maximum bicep strength and size.
What is an EZ bar?
An EZ bar is generally shorter than an olympic bar and has "zig zag" bends in it. These bends are designed as places for you to hold the EZ bar. An EZ bar has bends at about your shoulder width, you should use these for the EZ bar curl exercise. I have included a picture of an EZ bar below.
Why use the EZ bar for a bicep curl?
It's entirely up to you whether to use the EZ bar for a bicep curl! I find the EZ bar curl much more comfortable than a straight bar curl. The straight bar puts your wrists in a strained position. With the EZ bar curl my wrists are more relaxed and comfortable. The EZ bar is designed to give lifters a much more natural grip on the bar.
How to do an EZ bar curl
EZ Bar Curl Setup: Pick up the EZ bar off the floor with your palms facing away from your body. Your grip should be about shoulder width apart. Stand straight up with a straight back. Don't bend backwards. If it's feels comfortable, step back with one foot for stability.
EZ Bar Curl Execution: Squeeze the bar tight and slowly bring it towards your upper chest. Keep your elbows tucked into your sides. Pause at the top of the movement, and slowly lower the bar to the starting position. Keep control of the weight at all times. Don't arch your back or swing the weight up - that's cheating!
